Why is it so much more painful to watch somebody else destroy themselves, than it is to destroy yourself? I'm so sorry, mom and dad, for putting you through that for six years. It must have hurt you to know that I was destroying my mind, but that ultimately you could do nothing to help. I'm finally getting a glimpse of the helplessness you must have felt.
Something tells me it's the same with God. When He watched Eve, and then Adam, take the fruit He had forbidden them, it must have broken His heart a thousand times over. Was it worse, God, than having to destroy yourself on that cross? What hurt You more - watching your beloved creation destroy themselves, or doing the same to Yourself?
